Popup Exhibit For Cherry Blossom Festival

Apr 29-30, 2023

Much fun was had at Cupertino Museum’s popup exhibit for the Cherry Blossom Festival. San Jose Kimono Club offered their expertise in dressing mannequins in several kimono styles. Visitors voted for their favorite with pompoms. SJKC also generously loaned many kimonos for visitors to try on and pose with at our photo booth. Below are some photos of many stylish friends!

If you have more photos from this photo booth that you would like to share, please email them to cbf@cupertinomuseum.org! Please include names (left to right) for us to recognize you in captions. And, of course, please let us know (via the email above) if we have made any mistakes in the captions or if you can help us identify the names we have missed. Thank you!

Lunar New Year & Valentine's Day

February 14, 2023

Celebrating Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day at the Cupertino Historical Museum.
The garments and accessories a woman in the late Victorian era would use to get ready for a social outing such as a cotillion dance or a theater performance (movie theaters had not yet arrived). Up until the 1950s ladies felt required to wear a hat and gloves. Hat pins and handkerchiefs were also needed. The black dress on display has a waist level bow with pockets for giving and receiving calling cards. Our sailor in an early 1900’s uniform stands ready to escort any lady. His rank is of a Petty Officer Second Class and his rating is of a Storekeeper (crossed keys).
